So many features of desiccated landscapes are just things the people have got used to - the way things are have been that way so long that they can't imagine them being any other way.
Scotland underwent a local extinction of large trees and indeed all sorts of life followed - creating the plain and treeless landscape we know today.
This man has been working directly for decades to help bring back this extinct ecosystem, and to restore what once was so long ago!
"Caledonia" was a Roman word for "wooded heights" because at the time it was the truth - today it is an ironic historical misnomer that Mr. Featherstone is working to correct.
